Filipina Power! Smart Omega Empress Claims MWI 2024 Crown
The all-Filipina Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) team, Smart Omega Empress, has pulled off a stunning upset at the MWI 2024 finals! In a dominant performance, they swept the two-time champion, Team Vitality (formerly Bigetron Era), with a resounding 3-0 score.
From Underdogs to Champions
Smart Omega Empress is no stranger to the MWI stage, having participated since 2022. However, the coveted trophy always seemed just out of reach, with previous finishes in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals. This year, they faced the formidable Team Vitality, who held a back-to-back championship reign.
Defying the Odds
Despite an 82% audience prediction favoring Team Vitality, Smart Omega Empress displayed incredible teamwork and strategy. Players Ayanami, Keishi, Amoree, Shinoa, and Meraay took control of the series with heroes like Ruby, Valentina, Hayabusa, Karrie, and Barats. Their relentless performance culminated in a decisive victory, leaving viewers in awe. Even the players themselves were overwhelmed with emotion, expressing their disbelief and joy during the post-match interview.
Dominant Performance Earns Rich Rewards
Beyond claiming the prestigious MWI 2024 title, Smart Omega Empress secured a significant share of the prize pool – a whopping USD $180,000! They also received 1,000 EWC club points, propelling them to the 5th place position. Additionally, their star Gold Laner, Shinoa, received a well-deserved USD $50,000 for being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Southeast Asian Supremacy
This victory by Smart Omega Empress serves as a testament to the strength of the Southeast Asian (SEA) region in the MLBB scene. Both the Men’s and Women’s categories of the EWC 2024 saw SEA teams dominating. This dominance can be attributed to the long-standing presence of MLBB in the region compared to others.
Omega Empress (OMGE) is a female team under Omega Esports, a multi-gaming organization based in the Philippines.
